Some new stuff, some old stuff, and mostly just things that will make you laugh. November is sure to be a wild ride, so buckle up with something that’s gonna make you feel safe, silly, and whatever you want.

Shit, Actually reminds us to pause and ask, “How does this movie hold up?”, all while teaching us how to laugh at the things we love without ever letting them or ourselves off the hook.

Shit Actually, Lindy West
Both a book of movie critiques and a balm to the soul. It is fully aware of the present we are living in while still giving you hilarious references and jokes about movies you love and movies you love to hate. — Abby

A sci-fi tech queer love story, sign us up.

Always Human, Ari North
A YA graphic novel from a web series. We find our main characters in a world where people can adjust every part of them with body modifications, from their hairstyle to the shapes of specific body parts, to the way they remember and learn, and more. It’s a love story with a sci-fi twist that will warm your heart. — Abby

Fans of Sedaris definitely need this in their collection.

Best of Me, David Sedaris
I really need to laugh and David Sedaris is the best! For the first time collected in one volume, we get short stories plus Sedaris’ famed comedic observations on life, family, and weirdness. Highly recommend it on audio because hearing Sedaris read is a gift in itself. — Susan and Alex

Escape into a new tale of mystery and murder from Anthony Horowitz.

Moonflower Murders, Anthony Horowitz
I’d like to get lost in a book of murder and intrigue and what better than another tale featuring Horowitz’s famous literary detective Atticus Pund and Susan Ryeland. Full of more twists and turns than an American election result, escapism with very low stakes. — Susan

Because, cats.

A Unified Theory of Cats on the Internet, E.J. White
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been watching A LOT of cat Tik Tok videos to quell my ever-present feeling of unease. And, if there’s one thing I love more than cat videos, it’s books breaking down internet culture. This is a great read for anyone trying to break up with the Internet but just can’t because, well, cats. — Alex

This cover though.

I Want to Be Wear the Normal People Are, Rachel Bloom
One of the things I watch when my brain reverts to a pre-literate state is Rachel Bloom’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend, and these personal essays are like watching the show, minus the singing. Unless you sing when you read things, which if that’s true, can we be friends? Anyone who was picked on as a kid, like funny stories about poop, and/or deals with mortality though jokes will find delight in this collection. — Alex
